Fission Company Retreat

As a globally distributed company we do the majority of our work asynchronously. We only interact with each other face to face on Zoom calls, or when we're attending a conference together. That's why we like to set aside time for regular company retreats. This way we can all be in the same room together getting to know each other and talking through our ideas.

Our Fall/Winter retreat this year was in Lisbon, Portugal and we had an amazing time. We talked about our company values and the future of Fission, as well as participated in breakout sessions to discuss our various projects.

Of course, we couldn't pass up seeing the beautiful sights of the city and surrounding areas, so we explored various castles and monasteries, ate delicious seafood, and were captivated by a beautiful fado performance.

One of the highlights of our trip was a social we hosted where we got to meet and catch up with developers from the Lisbon area at Rooftop of The Art Inn.

We're hosting another event at this great space with some UCAN friends next week!

LabWeek 2022 + FIL Lisbon

The Lisbon tech scene is thriving and we look forward to returning next week for LabWeek22 and FIL Lisbon!

The Protocol Labs Network is gathering in Lisbon for our first ever decentralized conference. Teams in the network will collaborate on a variety of topics, including decentralized storage, public goods funding, cryptoeconomics, DeSci, and more.

We invite you to join us as we drive breakthroughs in computing to push humanity forward.

Last year we got invited to join what at the time was a brand new thing: Protocol Labs dedicating itself to becoming a networked organization that mirrors the decentralization and resiliency we're all building, called the Protocol Labs Network (PLN). It's been an amazing year, and we can't wait to connect with everyone in person for the first time.

Hacker Base

Register for Hacker Base co-working & events »

During Consensus 2022 in Austin we co-hosted a space with the Filecoin Foundation. In Lisbon we will do the same while partnering with both Filecoin Foundation and Lightshift in what we're now calling Hacker Base: a dedicated space for smaller co-working, workshops, lightning talks and more.

Whether you just need a quiet space to hack, want to meet other people, or run ad hoc demos and working group discussions, Hacker Base is there for you at the awesome Garagem Lisboa. Start by registering on Eventbrite even if you're just going to drop in co-work so you we can let you know what's up during the two weeks.

The space is available from Oct 25th through November 3rd, so this will be a great place to make your home base during LabWeek22 and the FIL Lisbon events beyond.

Check the FIL Lisbon Sched page for all of the Hacker Base events »

Also, stay tuned for Sticker Base details: pick up and drop off stickers from across the PLN and FIL Ecosystems. SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE, Rewrite it in Rust, the UCAN Toucan, and more will all be there from the Fission team.

Events Agenda

When we're not at the Hacker Base space, here are some of the other events we're organizing, speaking at, or attending:

FIL Accounts Working Group: we're continuing to dig in to activating and standardizing how FIL accounts get used to login to apps, interact with the FEVM and EVM compatible addresses, and more. Join us for a working session around these issues.

CASA Mini Gathering: The Chain Agnostic Standards Alliance (CASA) crew are having a mini gathering in Lisbon. We're focused on moving private data forward, so we're also going to have some dedicated working group time to talk about the encryption/decryption standards.

IPFS Camp: IPFS Camp 2022 is a gathering taking place Oct 28-30 for the entire IPFS community and will feature talks, workshops, discussion circles, hacking time, and more.

UCAN Have Drinks: Fission and web3.storage are co-hosting a happy hour at The Art Inn on Oct 29th. Head on over from IPFS Camp and come join us!

FIL Lisbon: FIL Lisbon will take place from Oct 30 - Nov 4 and feature over 50 speakers on FVM, NFTs, the Metaverse, and more. Filecoin will also host several talks, hackathons, workshops, and more across the city.

Compute over Data Summit: The first COD Summit takes place November 2-3. Topics include distributed datasets, both edge and data centers, and technologies such as Wasm, reproducible builds, and consensus. A big focus of this conference is to help bring about the next generation of platforms that bring data and compute together more easily and efficiently. We'll be talking IPVM and Private Data on Filecoin.

We'd love to connect with you in person while we're in Lisbon! Follow the "B" team on Twitter: Brooklyn @expede, Boris @bmann, Blaine @blaine, and Betts @depatchedmode, and join us in the Fission Discord to catch us live.
